is an Indian writer, producer and director, known for working in Bollywood thriller and action films. He was hailed in Surat, Gujarat, along with his brother, Mustan Burmawalla, who is also working in the same field and has collaborated with him in producing and directing several films. His other brother, Hussain Burmawalla, is a popular film editor of Hindi and Gujarati films. Abbas started his career working in Gujarati films.
His family is into the furniture business, but he and Mustan wanted something different in their lives. When they met S. D. Kura, their uncle, who’s working as a film editor of Hindi films, he told them that they should start with film editing before proceeding to film direction. They have worked with famous filmmakers like Sultan Ahmed and Govindbhai Patel as an assistant director. They have done a few films, but when Govindbhai Patel refused to work in the 1985 Gujarati film, Sajan Tara Sambharna, the director duo had their chance to direct their very first film, which became a big hit.
After this, they worked in another Gujarati film entitled Moti Verana Chokma, in 1987. They made their Bollywood debut, ‘Agneekaal’, in the year 1990. This movie stars
