Sultan Ahmed, born in 1938 in Lucknow during the British Indian Rule, was an Indian Film director, writer, and producer who had actively worked in the 1970s and 1980s. Ahmed had married twice during the entire span of his life. His first wife, Nargis Rabadi, commonly known as Shammi was an Indian actress and had appeared in two hundred films. They divorced in 1980 and after a few years, he married Farahdeeba. He was a father to two children, namely, Ali Abbas Sultan Ahmed and Ali Akbar Sultan Ahmed.
He had started his career by working as a chief assistant on Dilip Kumar’s- Madhubala starrer Mughal-e-Azam. He also worked with K Asif on other movies like “Love and God” & “Sasta Khoon Mehenga Paani" which played a crucial role in his career. Ahmed was highly fascinated with Dacoits and directed films centered around them. In his entire career, he collaborated with various prominent actors like Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Dutt, and Mithun Chakraborty in movies like “Dharam Kanta”, “Ganga ki Saugand” and “Heera” which were known to be few of his most notable works. He founded a production house which was named Sultan Productions, which is headed by his wife, Farah Sultan Ahmed.
Sultan Ahmed received various awards and certifications for films like “Heera” and “Ganga ki Saugand”. He was made President of IMPPA and awarded the K Asif Memorial Award for “Big Thinking” by the Bombay Film Awards Association. He passed away in 2002 at the age of 64 while on a pilgrimage to Iran and Iraq.
