It seems that Netflix and Amazon might get a new opponent. Prasar Bharati has launched their OTT app, with the tagline, ‘Family Entertainment ki Nayi Lehar’.
Prasar Bharati did the unthinkable at the International Film Festival of India held in Goa. They launched ‘Waves’, their own OTT app, which would serve as a one stop entertainment hub. Available in more than 12 languages, the app offers more than 65 live channels, films, interactive games, and even online shopping!
‘Waves’ could give a tough competition to JioStar, Netflix, and Amazon if implemented the right way. Prasar Bharati is already undergoing a major makeover, with a recent launch of the sequel to ‘ Fauji Fauji - Colonel Raj Kapoor was the director of thi >> Read More... ’, the iconic tele series that gave us an actor like Shahrukh Khan. ‘Fauji 2’ was recently streamed on 18 November, with Gauhar Khan Gauhar Khan or Gauahar Khan or Gauahar Zafar Khan >> Read More... and Vicky Jain Vicky Jain by profession is a Businessman and Beng >> Read More... in the lead.
Not much is known about the subscription plans, except that the makers are planning to make it as much affordable as possible. For now, there is no charge on viewing content and downloading the app, except for some premier content. The OTT domain is ever developing, and Prasar Bharati could make their own legacy, if they continue to innovate. Until the arrival of satellite television in early 2000s, Doordarshan was the numero uno in terms of content and commerce, despite the arrival of cable television in the 90s.
