Dario Moreno

There are stories that happen to us, and there are stories that make us one. Dario Moreno, is one such story whose guitar made him a person worth remembering. Orphaned when he was a toddler growing up in France, because of an unfortunate accident he lost his father. He was admitted to an orphanage by his mother and continued to be there till the age of four. This Jewish musician has more hardships in his story apart from those related to his ambition.

Pursuing education was a task which led him to work simultaneously. He used to study French at the Izmir’s Central Library. The incident that made his ordinary life slip into the hands of extraordinary was that of his finding the guitar, which he learned on his own with a little help from his friends.

Bar Mitzva was the first place where he established himself as a singer and became well known. He was later employed as a singer in the Turkish army, so the music side of his got more impetus. Later, after discharging from the army, he held a show in his hometown with the help of some nexus he developed during the Army. He became famous as a singer, especially among the Jewish Committee then he shifted to a better of quarters that divides the town with the coastline. Today the street is known as Dario Moreno Sokagi meaning the Dario Moreno Street in his remembrance. One of the most remembered songs of Dario Moreno is ‘Ya Mustafa’, it was very much in vogue among the Europeans in the 1950s and the early 1960’s.

His persona was often referred to as an overactive one; he died at the age of forty-seven of a heart attack in a taxi when he was on his way to Istanbul. Known as an amazing Turkish musician, composer and guitarist, Dario Moreno is no more, but his songs will live on forever.
