Melanie Jayne Chisholm is an English singer-songwriter, television personality, and actress. She is one of the members of hit girl band, Spice Girls in which she was popularly known as Sporty Spice. In the initial stages, the group was very insecure about the lack of a contract and broke with the direction of Heart Management. In 1995, after touring record labels in Los Angeles and London, the signed a record label with Virgin. Their debut album became the number one album in over 17 countries.

The album was labeled Spice. It was also multi-platinum certified by 27 countries. It sold 30 million copies and became the first biggest girl group album to be sold in the music history. The hit songs from the album are Wannabe that topped in 37 countries, Say You’ll Be There, Mama, Who Do You Think You Are, and 2 Become 1. All these songs were number one in the United Kingdom. Spiceworld was their second album released in 1997. The album sold 20 million copies globally. Songs like Spice Up Your Life, Viva Forever, and Too Much ranked number one in the UK Chart.

After doing two albums, Mel C along with her Spice Girl members starred in Spiceworld: The Movie. It grossed around 100 million dollars. It also became the second most watched movie in 1997. Geri Halliwell left the group in 1998. During the 1998 Christmas, the group released Goodbye, their third album. After that, Melanie sang a song with Bryan Adams, a Canadian superstar. The song was called When You’re Gone. It was Melanie’s first solo project. In 1999, she went solo and signed a deal with Virgin. She released her debut single named Goin Down.

Then on 18 October 1999, her solo album was released titled Northern Star. It sold four million copies and titled triple platinum in the UK. In 2003, her second solo album, Reason released. In 2004, Red Girl, her label was established. She released her third album, Beautiful Intentions. She joined her Spice Girls crew in 2007 on the Return of the Spice Girls world tour. In the same year, her fourth album, This Time was released. She has done a few movies and has judged different talent shows.
