Helen Reddy, born on October 25, 1941, in Melbourne Australia, was one of the most popular stars in the 70s, particularly because of her success in the music industry where she produced six consecutive Billboard number one singles along with two others making it to top ten. Also, she has done some movies as well as been active in political and social issues also. She had inherited her acting talents from her parents who were actors themselves. She gained widespread fame for her single ‘I Am Women’ which she co-wrote with Ray Burton, in 1972 which peaked at number one on Billboard Hot 100. The song became an anthem for the females at that time and earned Helen her first Grammy Award. In the next upcoming years, she produced several hit songs including ‘Delta Dawn’ reaching number one on U.S Top 40 Hits. ‘Angie’s Baby’ also reached number one. Her global album sales are expected to be more than 25 million. A transform of Cilla Black's 1964 hit "You're My World" in 1977 would become Helen’s last Top 40 hit. Her eight songs would become number one hits on the Easy Listening Charts. Later, she would perform songs for movies, some of which made it to the Billboard’s Hot 100. Amidst of her music career, she was seen on a number of TV programs like ‘The Bobby Darin Show,' ‘The Carol Burnett Show’, and ‘The Muppet Show.' She was also the host of NBC TV show ‘The Midnight Show’ for two years.
Her musical success allowed her to host ‘The Helen Reddy Special’ on ABC TV in 1979. A small appearance in the 1975 movie ‘Airport’ for which she got selected at the Golden Globe Awards for Most Promising Debutant and had a role in the 2011 thriller film The Perfect Host. In 2002, she announced her retirement and moved back to Australia to stay with her family. She worked as the state of California's Parks and Recreation commissioner for three years. She married three times and had a daughter and a son.
