Kenneth Graham Ross, also known as Ken Roth, was born in East Brunswick, Victoria, on June 4, 1941. He is most known for penning a 1978 stage drama, Breaker Morant. Breaker Morant was based on the life of a soldier from Australia. The soldier’s name was Harry "Breaker" Morant. He is also a screenwriter and songwriter. Ken Roth began writing under the pen name "Kenneth Ross" to distinguish himself from a slew of other well-known Australian creatives with the same name. Ross later converted the play into a film of the same name in 1980 with the help of the South Australian Film Corporation. The screenplay translated from another source was nominated for an Academy Award in 1980.
From 1951 to 1958, Ross attended Caulfield Grammar School in East St Kilda, Victoria, where one of his professors recognized and supported his creative writing abilities. While in school, he also showed excellent debate abilities. Ross was a tough and daring Australian rules footballer who was an excellent mid-distance marathoner, peaking at the half a mile (or 880 yards), now the 800 meters. After several years of being sure that he can become a creative writer, he chose to travel to the United Kingdom and Europe to gather international experience and, perhaps, to select what type of writing he would concentrate his talents on.
To raise enough money to continue his excursions, he relocated from Melbourne to Portland in late 1961 and was employed by his parents at Mac's Hotel on Bentinck Street in Portland. In May 1963, he boarded the SS Galileo Galilei for Italy, where he met and became friends with Elaine Cusick, an established Australian professional actress best known at the time for her role in The One Day of the Year. For many years, she also served as a mentor to Ross on a part-time basis. After landing in Italy and disembarking in Genoa, he embarked on a journey across the continent, arriving in the United Kingdom four months later.
Breaker Morant: A Play in Two Acts, which was initially produced by the Melbourne Theatre Company on February 2, 1978, was such an economic and artistic triumph that work on converting the play's script into a screenplay began almost immediately. Ross' services were commissioned on numerous occasions by interested parties in Australia and the United States to write film treatments on their behalf after he finished his work as an advisor to the scriptwriters for the film Breaker Morant.
Ross' services were commissioned on numerous occasions by interested parties in Australia and the United States to write film treatments on their behalf after he finished his work as an advisor to the scriptwriters for the film Breaker Morant; However, a lot of these rather promising and potential stuff never proceeded. This was caused due to the financial crisis which took place on 2007 - 2008 on the movie industry and its backers.
