Hope Holiday is a well-known twentieth-century actress, singer, and dancer of America.

She was born on the 30th November, 1930. Many members of her family were in this industry before she was. Her father, Allen Zee, performed plays of the satire genre, in which he specialized in burlesque drama. Ed Sullivan, the celebrated television personality and reporter, described her father as ‘An Exec. of Capitol Theater’. Her mother also, more or less, belonged to the same field as her daughter. She worked in the production unit of WHN, which was a live radio channel of New York City. Her sister was a stage actress too, whose name was Judy Sinclair.

Hope Holiday was already aspiring to take up acting while she was in school. With this thought in mind, she left high school to pursue singing at the famous Copacabana Nightclub of Times Square, New York.

Her birth name is Hope Jane Zee. However, her father got her name changed in one of the programs she performed in. The reason was that her father was a co-producer of the show. He feared that the masses would suspect that her employers chose her in his favor rather than her talent. Thus, Hope Jane Zee became Hope Holiday, after Jude Holliday, who her father admired.

She has carved her name in Broadway’s history. She began with a small dancing role during the chorus lines of plays such as Guys and Dolls, and Top Banana.
