Audrey Meadows was not only a movie actress, but also a banker and memoirist. She was also called as Audrey six.
Audrey Meadows took birth on February 8, 1922, in New York City. Her elder sister also was an actress named Jayne Meadows. Audrey went to high school at the Barrington school for Girls, located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
Audrey Meadows married twice in her life. After getting a divorce with her first husband Randolph Rouse, she married Robert Six on August 24, 1961.
Before becoming a regular on television in The Bob and Ray show she sang for the Broadway Musical. She played Alice on The Jackie Gleason Show. She is best known for the role as the straight-faced housewife Alice Kramden in the 1950s for American Television comedy The Honeymooners.
In 1960, she appeared in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, named “Mrs. Bixby and the Colonel`s Coat”. She featured on Dean Martin television shows and after that concentrated on Situation Comedy. In the 1980s, she played the role of mother-in-law on Too close for comfort.
Audrey Meadows’ career in banking was commendable. She was given the prestigious position of Director of the first National Bank of Denver for over 11 years. She has the credit of being the first woman to gain this position.
Audrey died due to lung cancer. When she knew that she had cancer she refused to take any treatment except palliative treatment. She passed away on February 3, 1996.
