Simon Baker is an eminent Australian actor and director. He was born on July 30, 1969 at Launceston, Tasmania in Australia to Elizabeth Labberton and Barry Baker. His parents had a divorce while he is still young. In 1972, his family shifter to Ballina, N.S.W. where his parents hoped to get good paying jobs. He finished his studies at Ballina High School in 1986 as Simon Baker-Denny. Prior to this, he also studied at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Primary School.
He started his acting career on Australian television in the late 1980’s as Simon Denny. Initially, he appeared in Melissa Tkautz’s music video for the song, Read My Lips and Euphoria’s Love you Right before he bagged the role of Sam Farrell in the very successful soap, E Street. He also acted as James Healy in the Australian soap, Home and Away and was later cast as Tom Summers in Heartbreak High. He played as Private Stan Hawke in the intended to become a series television sitcom, Which Way to the War.
In 1995, he appeared in the episode, Blindside Breakway of the Australian series, Naked as a rugby player. Later, he transferred to United States and was cast in the neo-noir detective film, L.A. Confidential in 1997. His portrayal in the film led him to better opportunities in doing supporting roles in the films. In 1998, he was starred in a small film, Love From Ground Zero by Stephen Grynberg. In 1999, he appeared as George Clyde in the civil war film, Ride with the Devil. Later, he bagged the role of Michael Scott in the comedy-drama film, Sunset Strip. Simon essayed the role of Chip Pettengill, an astronaut in the science fiction film, Red Planet along with Val Kilmer. He was starred as Nicholas ‘Nick’ Fallin in the three seasons of the drama series, The Guardian. Later, he donned the role of Rétaux de Villette in the historical drama, The affair of the Necklace. He was also featured as David Walker in the 2004 film, Book of Love. A year later, he played the main lead role as Riley Denbo in the post-apocalyptic film, Land of the Dead. Simon also acted as
in the romantic drama film, Something New opposite Sanaa Lathan. He plays as Christian Thompson, an attractive writer in the comedy drama film, The Devil Wears Prada and bagged the role of Jeff in the television series, Smith. Simon also played as Roderick Blank in the dark comedy film, Sex and Death 101 in 2007. He was starred as Patrick Jane in the police procedural series, The Mentalist on CBS. He received nominations at the Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Awards for his role as Patrick Jane. He also earned his first SAG Award. He played the role of Howard Hendricks in the 2010 film, The Killer Inside Me; a film adaptation of Jim Thompson’s novel of the same name.
He got married to Rebecca Rigg in 1998 after living in for five years. The couple have three children namely, Stella Breeze, Claude Blue and Harry Friday. He got his Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 2013. Simon was chosen to be the face of Givenchy’s ‘Gentleman Only’ fragrance.
