Alex O’Loughlin is a writer and actor. He was born on August 24, 1976 in Canberra, Australia. The actor is of Australian, Irish and Scottish lineage. His father is a teacher while his mother works as a nurse. When he was a kid, the actor suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Asthma and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which makes his younger years a struggle for him. When he was 14-years old, he started to work in several fields, then in year 1999, he studied for three years at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) and took up a Bachelor of Dramatic Art Program in Sydney, Australia. Alex started working in Fringe Theatre and Short Films during his teenage years. He appeared as an extra in a television commercial and played as a marine. In 2004, he started acting on films through his very first leading role as Jack Flange, a villain who took money from a bank van to pay the hospital bills for his sick sister. In 2005, he appeared as Deputy Eric Fraser in the horror telefilm, Man-Thing. He was starred as Michael Carter, a sadistic webmaster in the Australian thriller film, Feed. In the same year, he was featured as Will in the film, The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant, which is nearly based on Mary Bryant’s life. Alex earned nominations on Australian Film Institute Awards as the Best Lead Actor in Television in 2005 and on Silver Logie Award as the Most Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series in 2006. He acted in the drama television series, The Shield where he essayed the role of Detective Kevin Hiatt in 2007.
Alex left The Shied after winning the lead role as Mick St. John, an investigator turned vampire in the paranormal romance drama series, Moonlight. However, the show was cancelled and received negative reviews. In 2008, he was starred in the medical drama series, Three Rivers as Dr. Andy Yablonski. In 2009, he made a guest-star appearance in The Big Wheel episode of the police-procedural series,
Criminal Minds
as Vincent Rowlings, a serial killer. Later, he acted in the romantic comedy film, The Back-up Plan as Stan opposite
Jennifer Lopez
in 2010. He was also featured as Steven J. McGarrett, a Lieutenant Commander in the television series, Hawaii Five-O. After this, he was ranked second place in the ‘TV’s 100 Sexiest Men of 2010’ by BuddyTV and took the 9th place in 2011.
He was given a Breakthrough Award For International Success in year 2013. Alex has his first child named Saxon from his past girlfriend. In 2012, his second son, Lion O’Loughlin was born from his girlfriend, Malia Jones, a model and surfer. They got married on April 2014 which was held in Hawaii. He is also the ambassador of the Donate Life America.
