Chris Pratt is a renowned American actor, who became popular for his roles in television shows like Everwood and Parks and Recreation. He was born as Christopher Michael Pratt on June 21, 1979, in Virginia, Minnesota, the USA to Kathleen Louise Kathy and the late Daniel Cliffton Pratt. He was raised in Lake Stevens in Washington, where he won the 5th place in a state wrestling tournament during his high school years. Initially, he struggled with his life after dropping college. He worked as a ticket salesman and later as a daytime stripper. He became homeless and slept everywhere in Maui. He was later discovered by actress-director, Rae Dawn Chong while he was waiting tables in a restaurant. The latter cast him in her directorial debut film, Cursed Part 3. He became a regular as Bright Abbott in Greg Berlanti’s drama series, Everwood, on The WB channel. When the series was cancelled, he was cast in the fourth season of the American teen drama series, The O.C., on Fox Network. In 2008, he did a small stint in Angelina Jolie’s Wanted. Chris auditioned for the role of Captain James T. Kirk in the sci-fi adventure film,
Star Trek and the role of Jake Sully in the epic sci-fi film, Avatar. In 2009, he started playing the role of Andy Dwyer on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. He was supposed to play the character temporarily, but the production decided to make him a regular. In 2011, Chris played as Scott Hatteberg in the very successful biographical sports drama film, Moneyball. Initially, he was told that he is too fat to play the role and thus decided to lose weight and subsequently lose 30 pounds.
He won the role after sending his photo to the casting director of the film. In the same year, he gained his lost weight again for his character in the romantic comedy drama film, 10 Years. Then again, he lost his weight to play the role of a Navy SEAL in the action thriller film,
Zero Dark Thirty. In the year 2013, he turned down the offer to portray as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Sarah Finn, the casting director, suggest his name to
James Gunn, who was convinced that Chris is perfect for the role. He earned several nominations and won the Saturn Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film. In the comedy-drama film,
Delivery Man, he lost his weight again. Although he became popular for doing supporting roles, he is still known for his character in Parks and Recreation. This eventually changed after he starred as Emmet Brickowski in the blockbuster computer-animated film,
The Lego Movie, in 2014. In November 2013, he replaced
Josh Brolin and played Owen Grady in the
Jurassic World (2015). He got married to
Anna Faris, his co-star in
Take Me Home Tonight, on July 9, 2009. They have a son named Jack. Chris earned the CinemaCon Award for Breakthrough Performer in 2014 and was ranked second on the annual list of Sexiest Men Alive by the People’s Magazine.
