Robert Hanna is an American Cinematographer and Director of Photography (DOP). He is majorly known for his work in commercials and advertisements. He graduated from the Institute of Film and Television in the School of Arts which is a part of the New York University. In his college life, he made a 25-minute short film which received an Academy Award for Best Dramatic Student Film and a Cine Gold Eagle Certificate. This led to his break in the American Film Industry. He eventually started his professional career and got noticed in the year 1985. Some of the famous works of Robert Hanna are the documentaries Carrier and Circus. Google, YouTube, and Knorr are some big ad campaigns with whom Robert has worked in the commercial business.

He has shot these in Europe, Scandinavia, and Asia. He has been lucky enough to get a chance to film all over the world. Being a lover of traveling, he has expressed in multiple interviews the joys of being a cinematographer as you get to travel and work all over the world. The special quality about Robert is that he doesn’t limit himself to a particular kind of Cinema. He has chosen a wide variety of subjects to work on, including biographies of famous personalities like Robert Frank, Ansel Adams, E. O. Wilson and Kehinde Wiley among others. Being a philanthropist and feeling deeply about the drawbacks of this civilisation, he also works on movies based on social issues.

Some of these flicks are A Path Appears (based on Nick Kristoff, a NY Times journalist’s study on women empowerment and how can women help each other) and Half the Sky. Like any other cinematographer, period films and historical topics interest him a lot as they are difficult to capture in the modern times. He has worked on The History of Cancer. The art of storytelling is tested the most with crime stories as the build-up and suspense have to be in perfect attribution to the story, enjoying this genre of photography, Robert has worked on Investigations into the Mafia and DEA Pursuits in South America and Europe.

He has won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Cinematographer in 2008 and 1996. He was awarded the 2008 honor for his work in the series Carrier. It was chosen among the numerous nominations as it was shot aboard of the Navy aircraft carrier called Nimitz and hence, delivered beautiful cinematography in such difficult conditions. At the beginning of his journey in the year 1985, he won a Cindy Award, followed by awards from National Geographic Explorer and Discovery Channel. He won the New York Festival’s gold medal for the Best Cameraman in the year 1996. He won accreditations for his work on “Man-Eaters of India.” In the year 2000, he got the Baniff Film Festival Rockie Award for Best Popular Science and Natural History Program.
