Tate Donovan is an American actor and director known chiefly for Hercules, Shooter, Argo, and Manchester by the Sea. He has also featured in television series Damages, The O.C., and 24: Live Another Day.

Born as Tate Buckley Donovan on September 25, 1963, in Tenafly, New Jersey, the actor is the youngest among the six children. His father, John Timothy Donovan, was a surgeon, while his mother was Eileen Frances. Both his parents had Irish ancestors and were brought up as Roman Catholics.

Donovan schooled at Dwight-Englewood School, Englewood, New Jersey, and Tenafly High School. He, later, pursued his higher studies at the University of Southern California. The actor is also the uncle of Ari Weiss and Marnika Weiss.

When Tate was a teenager, he featured in the television shows like Not My Kid and Nutcracker: Money, Madness & Murder. The New Jersey-born actor relocated to Los Angeles in order to become a part of television industry when he was attending college. On finishing college, Donovan shot to prominence through the portrayal of the co-pilot 1st Lt. Luke Sinclair in the war drama film Memphis Belle, helmed by Michael Caton-Jones. He landed his first lead role in the 1992 flick Love Potion No. 9, helmed by Dale Launer, where he portrayed Paul Matthews.

Later, in 1994, Donovan featured in the family comedy film Holy Matrimony, helmed by Leonard Nimoy. He essayed the role of Peter Jacobson Peter Jacobson is an eminent personality in the Br >> Read More... in the Patricia Arquette-starrer film. He worked for Disney the second time, when he lent his voice for the adult version of the titular character in the film Hercules.

He featured in supporting roles in films like Good Night, and Good Luck and Argo. His other movie credits include the flick Inside Monkey Zetterland, where he features as Brent Zetterland and secured a nod for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male.

He is also credited with producing the short film 30 for 30, for which he bagged the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series.

His television credits include television series like Partners, Ally McBeal, Friends, where he plays Jennifer Aniston’s boyfriend Joshua Burgin, and Trinity. He has also been a part of other television shows like The O.C., Deception, 24: Live Another Day, The Man In The High Castle, and MacGyver.

Tate exchanged wedding vows with writer Corinne Kingsbury in 2005, but the duo divorced in 2008.
