Brambach was born in Dresden, Germany, to a family who worked in the film industry. His mother was a costume designer whose work helped him develop his sense of poise and eye for detail. He grew up with a great love for theatre and an inherent knack for acting. He began his career on the stage at local productions and soon moved on to perform at some of Germany’s most renowned theatricals. His immense success as an actor took him to the Bavarian motion picture sector in late 1980s’. He appeared in supporting roles in several well-known movies like ‘Comedian Harmonists (1997),’ ‘Good Bye, Lenin (2003),’ and ‘Tag und Nacht (2010).’ Many German television shows also featured his performance. He worked unendingly with multiple projects in parallel, changing personalities and adopting new characters for each of his parts. He worked with major International directors in the making of critically acclaimed movies. He is the only actor to have been in two Academy-Award-winning German movies, ‘The Lives of Others (2006)’ and ‘The Counterfeiters (2007).’
His artistic pursuits won him the Best Supporting Actor award for ‘Der Fall Barschel (2015)’ from the German Screen Actors Awards. He was also awarded ‘Best Actor’ by the Bavarian TV Awards. Brambach married the actress, Christine Summer, and lives with his family at Recklinghausen. He is a staunch vegetarian who pushes for environmental reforms at the corporate scale and believes in sustainable living. An avid guitar enthusiast, he also takes part in community art events. He does readings from leading German works that focus on the historical and literary richness of his nation and has several audiobooks credited to him.
