Roger Robinson was born in Seattle, Washington on May 2, 1940. He was an American actor who received the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for his work in Joe Turner's Come and Gone in 2009. In 1969, Robinson made his Broadway debut in "Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?" Amen Corner, The Iceman Cometh, and Seven Guitars are his most famous works. He received his first Tony nomination for his role in Seven Guitars. Robinson featured in six of August Wilson's ten plays on African-American life in the twentieth century. He was the first African American to receive the Richard Seff Award, an award presented to an actor who has reached the age of fifty or more. He won this award for his performance in a play.
Willie Dynamite, Believe in Me, It's My Turn, Who's the Man?, Newman's Law, Meteor (1979), The Lonely Guy, Wedding Daze, and Brother to Brother are among Robinson's cinematic credits. The latter earned him the LA Outfest Grand Jury Award for Best Actor in a Feature Film, as well as a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. Robinson's television credits include the miniseries King and The Marcus-Nelson Murders, as well as cameo roles on Ironside, Starsky, and Hutch, The Jeffersons, A Man Called Hawk, Law & Order, New York Undercover, Homicide: Life on the Street, Kojak, and NYPD Blue. He portrayed Mac Harkness on ABC's How to Get Away With Murder. Roger Robinson died in Escondido, California, on September 26, 2018. He was 78 at the time.
