Winning a National Award for acting is considered a Lifetime Achievement for the actors. Not all get the opportunity to showcase their talent. With the right script and the right director, an actor could expose his acting talent. Here are some super actors from the South Indian Film Industry who grabbed the National Award for the Best Actor.
The versatile Kamal Haasan started his career as a child actor. The multi-talented Kamal grabbed his first National Award for the Best Actor in 1982 for Moondram Pirai, directed by Balu Mahendra. The film had “Sridevi” as the female lead. Both Kamal and Sridevi did a splendid job in that film. His next award came in 1987 for Nayakan, directed by Mani Ratnam. In 1996, he grabbed the National Award for the best actor for Indian directed by “S Shankar.”
“Dhanush,” the son of director Kasthuri Raja, impressed everyone in his second film, Kaadhal Kondein. He grabbed his first National Award for the Best Actor in 2010 for “Aadukalam,” directed by “Vetrimaaran.” Taapsee Pannu paired him in this film and it is her debut in Tamil. After nine years, he grabbed the award for “Asuran,” directed by Vetrimaaran. The film has Manju Warrier as the female lead and it is her debut in Tamil. Dhanush received accolades for his performance from regional and national media.
“Mammootty” is one among the few actors who have no haters. The multilingual star from Mollywood has grabbed the National Film Award for Best Actor thrice. He received his first award in 1989 for two movies, Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Mathilukal. In 1994, he grabbed the award for two films, Ponthan Mada and Vidheyan. In 1999, he received the award for the third time for portraying Ambedkar in Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
“Mohanlal” is a charming actor who impresses the audience with his natural performances. Mohanlal received four national awards for his acting. Among them, two are for Best Actor, one under the Special Mention category for acting and the other is a Special Jury Award. He received his first Best Actor for the movie Bharatham and in 1999, he received the award for Vanaprastham.
Vikram is one of the talented stars in the South. He got his first National Award in 2003 for playing the role, Chithan in the film “Pithamagan” directed by “Bala.” Suriya Sivakumar, Laila Mehdin and Sangeetha Krish had also done a fantabulous job in that film.
Sanchari Vijay from Sandalwood grabbed his first National Award for Best Actor in 2014 for his wonderful performance in Naanu Avanalla Avalu. The film, directed by BS Lingadevaru, is based on the autobiographical book I am Vidya.
