Thug Life is already in controversy before the release.
According to the recent reports, the controversial scene between Kamal Haasan and Abhirami will be censored from the final cut of the Tamil action drama, which stars a huge ensemble cast led by Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR etc.
But why the controversy? According to the trailer released, there was a long smooch between Abhirami and Kamal Haasan, which evoked criticism due to the huge age gap between the two actors. Director Mani Ratnam doesn’t want any hiccups during the release, and hence decided to cut the controversial scene.
However, this isn’t the first time that Kamal Haasan has been involved in a controversial scene. In 2000, he was involved in a similar scene with Bollywood actress Rani Mukherji, when he directed the bilingual historical drama Hey Ram, which was based on the Partition of India, and the subsequent assassination of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. The movie barely managed to recover its costs, despite strong critical appreciation.
Thug Life is the reunion of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan after Nayakan, which released in 1987. The movie is set to release on June 5, the same day as the Bollywood movie Housefull 5.
