There are some Malayalam films which were remade into Tamil and gained popularity, both for the story, and for the stellar performances of the artists. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai

This film starring ' Vijay' and Shalini Ajith Kumar is the remake of the popular Malayalam film Aniyathi Pravu. The film heralds the victory of love in a sentimental way. Directed by veteran director Fazil, this film had Shalini playing the female lead in both the languages.


This horror film, directed by 'P Vasu', is the remake of the superhit Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu. This film was appreciated for its interesting theme. Superstar ' Rajinikanth' and Jyothika Saravanan acted in this film. This film was the longest running Southern film during its time. Jyothika’s performance in the film was very much appreciated.


This film, directed by Jeetu Joseph, was a trend setter in Malayalam. It had a gripping theme and was accepted by the audience. It was remade in Tamil as Paapanasam with Jeetu Joseph handling direction here too. While ' Mohanlal' played the protagonist in the original, Kamal Haasan reprised the former’s role in Tamil. The film was well received in Tamil too.

En Bommukutty Ammavukku

This film is the Tamil version of the Malayalam film Ente Mamattikuttiyammakku directed by 'Fazil'. ' Sathyaraj' and Suhasini Maniratnam played the pivotal roles along with Baby Geetu. This film was packed with emotional intensity and received positive reviews in Tamil Nadu too.


With this film, Vijay returned with a bang as a romantic hero, after acting in several action films. This is a feel good film and though the script is simple, it is shot in a nice manner.
