1. Srividya

She is a famous South-Indian film actress who has won five Kerala State Film Awards. She was born in a Tamil family in Chennai in 1953. She started her career during her childhood in a Tamil film but became famous through Malayalam cinema. Her first Malayalam movie was ‘Chattambikkavala’, followed by Kumara Sambhavam, and ‘Swapnangal’. She received five State Awards for the pictures Edavazhiyile Poocha Mindapoocha, ‘Rachana’, Daivathinte Vikrithikal, ‘Iraka’l, and Ennennum Kannettante. Srividya bid adieu to the world in 2006, due to spine cancer.

2. Sharada

She was born as Saraswati Devi in 1945 in the district of Tenali in Andhra Pradesh. Though she first tried her hands in Telugu cinema, she got established as an actress in Malayalam cinema. She received three National Awards for the Malayalam films ‘Thulabharam’ and Swayamvaram’, and the Telugu picture ‘Nimanjanam’. After the grand success in Malayalam, she again moved to Telugu cinema and did many pictures. In the 2000s, she returned to Malayalam through the movies ‘Mazhathullillilukkam’, ‘Rappakal’, and ‘Nayika’.

3. Kamal Haasan

Kamal Haasan, born as Parthasarathy in Madras, is a leading actor, producer, and director in India. He came to the cinema world through the Malayalam film Kannum Karalum. Later, he did many movies in Malayalam including Njan Ninne Premikkunnu, Mattoru Seetha, Aanandam Paramanandam, ‘Madanolsavam’, ‘Padakkuthira’, and ‘Yaetta’. He was thrice the recipient of the National Best Actor Award for the films Moondram Pira, ‘Nayagan’, and ‘Indian’.

4. Suhasini

She was born in Chennai as the niece of Kamal Haasan. Suhasini started as a camera assistant after her studies at the Madras Film Institute. She acted in some of the successful Malayalam pictures like ‘Koodevide’, ‘Aksharangal’, ‘Aarorumariyathe’, ‘Samooham’, ‘Vanaprastham’, ‘Nammal’, and Makante Achan. She is a National Award recipient in the year 1986 for the movie Sindhu Bairavi. In 1988, she married the famous director Mani Ratnam.

5. Vikram

Born as Kennedy John Victor in Chennai, Vikram is a renowned and brilliant actor in South-India. He has won a National Award for the film ‘Pithaamagan’ in 2003. In the beginning of his career, he appeared in many Malayalam movies like ‘Dhruvam’, ‘Sainyam’, ‘Maafia’, ‘Indriyam’, and ‘Indraprastham’. His well-acclaimed pictures are ‘Anniyan’, ‘Raavan’, ‘Deiva Thirumagal’, and ‘I’.

6. Gautami Tadimalla

Goutami was born in Andhra Pradesh. But she did more films in Tamil, than Telugu and Malayalam. Her Malayalam movies include His Highness Abdullah, ‘Vidyarambham’, Ayalathe Adheham, ‘Dhruvam’, and ‘Sukrutham’. After her first marriage aended in a divorcé, she started a live-in relationship with Kamal Haasan. She has got the Tamil Nadu State Award for the picture Namma Ooru Poovatha.

7. Bhanu Priya

A native of Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Bhanupriya is a leading South Indian actress who has appeared in many Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films. She debuted in Malayalam with the movie ‘Rajashilpi’ directed by R. Sukumaran. Then, she did the picture Azhakiya Ravanan opposite ‘Mammootty’, which became a chartbuster at the box-office. Manjupoloru Penkutty, Hridayathil Sookshikkan, and ‘Raathrimazha’ are her other Malayalam films.

8. Madhavi

Born as Vijayalakshmi in Hyderabad, Madhavi started her career in the Telugu film industry. Her first picture proved to be a super hit, which gave her more opportunities in Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil cinema. She received three Kerala State Film Awards for the movies Valarthu Mrigangal, ‘Ormakkayi’, and ‘Akashadooth’. She became a familiar face to the Malayalee audience through the pictures Novembarinte Nashtam, Oru Vadakkan Veeragadha, ‘Sobharaj’, and ‘Sudhinam’.

9. Suparna Anand

With a handful of successful movies, Suparna has made a lasting impression in the minds of the Malayalee audience. Born in Mumbai, she has acted in Hindi and Malayalam movies. Her debut film ‘Vaishali’ brought her many compliments and appreciation. Njan Gandharvan, ‘Utharam’, and Nagarangalil Chennu Rapaarkkam are her other Malayalam pictures.

10. Nikki Galrani

A native of Bangalore, Karnataka, Nikki Galrani has marked her talent in Tamil and Malayalam cinema. The 2014 movie ‘1983’ in Malayalam brought her the award for Best Female Debut Actress in the Filmfare Awards. In the same year, she made a cameo appearance in the film Om Shanthi Oshaana. Later, she acted in the Malayalam pictures ‘Vellimoonga’, Ivan Maryadaraman, and Oru Second Class Yathra, which made her famous in Kerala.
