Malayalam Web Series Jai Mahendran

Jai Mahendran is a series streamed on Sony Liv. It is scripted by Rahul Riji Nair and directed by Srikanth Mohan. Rahul Riji Nair produced the series. Sidhartha Pradeep composed the music. Prasanth Raveendran handled the camera, and Christy Sebastian edited the series. The series features Saiju Kurup, Suhasini Maniratnam, Miya George, Suresh Krishna, Johny Antony, Maniyanpilla Raju, Balachandran Chullikkad, Rahul Riji Nair, Vishnu Govindan, and Sidhartha Siva.

Plot

Mahendran is the Deputy Tahsildar in Palazhikkulam, Trivandrum. People come to the Tahsildar office in search of documents and Mahendran wants to help everyone, as they need to clear their financial struggles. Balu is his right hand. Mahendran had been running the office, until Shoba arrived as the Tahsildar. She wanted to change the office’s functions. Following this, Mahendran had a tiff with her. When the petty fights were going on, Shoba signed a document, which resulted in suspending her and Mahendran for being corrupt. Their reputation is shattered now. How are they going to prove that they are innocent? The rest of the series deals with this.

Star Performance

Saiju Kurup is wonderful in his role as Mahendran. His on-screen chemistry with Rahul Riji is excellent. Suhasini is neat in her role and pulls off it effortlessly. If her role had been extended a bit, it would have created some more interesting sequences. Miya George is just present. She has nothing significant to do.

Analysis

The series speaks about the chronicles of a government office. The tug-of-war between the senior and the deputy officer is shown effectively. Saiju’s character, Mahendran, is written well. How a person who was in charge of every activity in the office and managing it feels when a person superior to him intervenes is well-shown. That was a good effort by the director. The screenplay is pretty decent. Some characters should have been given better screen time, including Miya George’s. The visuals are fine. The editing and BGM are also decent.

Verdict

Jai Mahendran is a decent entertainer to kill boredom this weekend. Not to forget that this is the first Malayalam series streaming on Sony Liv.
