The Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation has got a major setback from the Supreme Court.
Upholding the verdict by the Competition Commission of India, the apex court refused to provided relief to the Kerala film body against the penalties imposed for not screening other language movies, especially Tamil in the local theatres.
A bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice KV Vishwanathan passed a judgment that upheld the 2015 judgment of the Competition Commission of India, which was pronounced against the Kerala film body. The jury maintained that whenever new Tamil and Malayalam movies were released, they would not be released in select theatres, and such anti-competitive practices would not be tolerated.
