Even though local dialects were used in some movies, it was limited to either the main hero or any specific character like a comedian or the villain. Recently, there has been an emergence in the rise of films in which almost all characters speak in the local dialects or slang. The film was a commercial success at the box office.

Released in 2019, it is a science-fiction comedy-drama film written and directed by Ratheesh Balakrishna Poduval. The main characters are played by Suraj Venjaramood and Soubin. The film is about a son who works abroad and his ailing father who is stubborn. To take care of the father, the son sends an AI humanoid robot. After initial hesitance, the bond becomes more robust and emotional. It won the Kerala State film award for best actor, debut director, and art director.

Released in 2018its a sports drama film directed by Zachariah Mohammed. Soubin plays the lead role of Majeed. The story revolves around Majeed and his friend from the football team. The friend 'Samuel' is from Nigeria and faces an issue when his passport is stolen. Majeed helps his friend to go back to his native country. It won many awards, including the Filmfare Award South for best film and the FIPRESCI Award for best film.
