Tamil Movie Actor Guru Somasundaram

Guru Somasundaram is a growing actor in Tamil cinema. He never intended to become an actor and considers his entry as something great. In 2002 he got introduced to the acting workshop and that’s how he got interested in films.

Guru Somasundaram is born and brought up in Madurai. He had a humble background. He lived in Tanjore district for some time.  He pursued his Dipoma in Mechanical Engineering and later worked in TVS as junior executive. Then he was at crossroads in his career. He was pondering whether to take up histrionics as his profession. Then he associated himself with an acting workshop. Earlier he never had great interest in acting. He went to the acting workshop and eventually he got himself so much involved in the theatre group that he started improvising on his acting skills including his expressions etc.

In the theatre group Guru Somasundaram had to gel with a completely different work culture. He also made new friends. He used to read modern literature. The film was received well critically and got the director Indira Gandhi Award for debut director during 2011. This was felicitated by the National Awards. Guru Somasundaram was also highly appreciated for his performance in the film.

Then Guru Somasundaram did films such as Thoongavanam, Jigarthanda and Kadal as character artist. In Jigarthanda people noticed his character. Then there was a leap from character artist to hero role. Critics gave excellent reviews about Guru Somasundaram’s performance in Joker. Guru Somasundaram had enacted the role of an anguished supporter who handles issues on behalf of his village people.

Guru is grateful to Raju Murugan and the producers S R Prakashbabu and S R Prabhu for offering him this film.

When questioned about whether he will go back to theatre Guru replied that he is open to working in any field. Also, if someone sponsors some good drama and he can travel, then he is very interested to do so. He will work in cinema if he is offered a good script.

Now Guru Somasundaram  is working on the Tamil film Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai.
