Thiagarajan Kumararaja is an Indian film and ad director and also a screenplay writer. He is born in the year 1976 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India and bred in the same place. He works in the Tamil industry and is very famous for his contribution. Thiagarajan is a National Award winning filmmaker in the category of Best Film of a Director.
Just because he wanted to make films, he soon dropped the Visual Communication course from The Loyola College. He later started working as a photographer and writer. He was not good at studies. He used to like the subject only if the teacher was good, if not, then he did not study for that subject. In Class 12th, he flunked Mathematics; it was not an exciting subject for him. In his childhood, he used to stay at home because his parents thought that he would adopt bad habits if he goes out. On his way from home to school, in Porur to Santhome Higher Secondary School, he always stood near the bus driver and observed the fluctuating speed and gears of the bus.
At that time he was so fascinated by it that he wished to be a PTC bus driver. Kumararaja is a great animal lover. Rats are his most favorite. He finds cats very pretty and is fond of them so much that he wanted to have a cat tattoo. He had few relationships, but none of them did last for a longer period. Biking is his hobby, and whenever he wants to go somewhere, he goes on his bike. He enjoys watching good films, but he gets disappointed and feels bad if he sees a bad movie. His favorite flicks are Sholay, Deewar, Pattanathil Bhootham and some more. He is also a song lover. Kumararaja is just the opposite of his films' characters.
What he is not in real life, he will show it on the screen and find it exciting. He made his first animated advertisement 'Stayzilla' as a director in the year 2015. He prepared the script for a Tamil film 'Yennai Arindhal' in the same year 2015 with director, and co-writer
Gautham Menon. Besides this, his feature debut film as a director was Aaranya Kaandam in 2011. It was a gangster film which starred actor
Guru Somasundaram as a debutant who stole hearts all over and made the film reach great heights. Other artists such as
Jackie Shroff from Bollywood and
Ravi Krishna were seen in the lead roles. For this excellent movie, the whole cast and crew achieved great appreciation and love from critics and viewers. But the most comendable moment was marked when Director Thiagarajan Kumararaja bagged the Indira Gandhi (National) Award for Best Film of a Director including one more National Award at the 59th
National Film Awards. The film earned the Grand Jury Award at the South Asian International Film Festival in the category of Best Film in 2010. It also achieved the Vijay Award for Best Story and writer and was nominated for several other awards and felicitations. This year he is coming with another film 'Aneethi Kathaigal' after five years of long gap.
He directed a five-part documentary 'Sthala Puranam' on South Indian temples. He made a short film 'Becky', and bagged the award for the first prize at the Ability Fest 2005. Kumararaja has penned down all songs of the film Va (2010). He wrote dialogues for the film Oram Po (2007). It took almost four years for him to come up with his debut film. After all, the process beginning from script writing to find a producer and get a cast to shoot takes a lot of time. Resulting in such a marvelous film, patience, and hard work is equally needed. Kumar has always taken sufficient time to start his next projects and gives the best to the audience. Therefore, viewers are expecting a lot from such a great director and his upcoming movie which is assumed to be released in May this year.
