Fahadh Faasil had worked previously with Rajinikanth on the action drama Vettaiyan, which had released last year. Though the movie didn’t succeed at the box office, the chemistry between Rajinikanth and Fahadh Faasil was extremely appreciated.

The movie had released on the same day as Gadar 2 and OMG 2, i.e. 11 August 2023. However, despite the heavy competition, Jailer managed to surprise everyone, including the critics. Made on a budget of around 200 crores, the movie earned a whopping 650 crores worldwide, allowing no dent on the collections of either Gadar 2 or OMG 2. The only movie that couldn’t withstand the challenge was Chiranjeevi’s Telugu movie Bholaa Shankar, which was the Telugu adaptation of Vedalam.
