Politician and dialogue writer A.V. P. Asaithambi was born on 28th May 1924 in Virudhunagar, a city in Tamil Nadu. He married Smti. Parameswari in 1944 and they had three children together. He was a journalist and writer who spent his leisure time reading and writing. The name of AVP Asaithambi first appeared in the film industry when he took part in the 1951 film ‘Sarvadhikari’ as a dialogue writer. Asaithambi then entered the political scene. He became a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, as a representative of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party, in 1957. He was also elected to represent the Chennai North Constituency in the Lok Sabha in 1977. Though Asaithambi had quite a successful career, his life was not free from trouble. He was imprisoned ten times for various political issues. Still, because of his hard work and passion towards his political agendas, his people held him in high regard and named the Collectorate office building in Virudhunagar after him. AVP Asaithanbi passed away on 7th April 1979.
