Tamil cinema is once again in the news, but for the wrong reasons.
Siddharth Suryanarayan The business management graduate Siddharth has don >> Read More... took a jibe at Sandeep Vanga Sandeep Vanga is an Indian director, writer, actor >> Read More... for his approach towards cinema. He mentioned that many people who hate his movies would immediately watch Animal, but find his ‘Chittha’ disturbing. However, he takes pride in the fact that ‘no woman came to him complaining that his film was problematic’.
Ironically, Siddharth’s comments did not go down too well. While many mocked him for his senseless comments, some blogs, as well as websites were of the opinion that it’s time Tamil cinema should move on instead of bickering in a childish way.
The opinion makers aren’t wrong either. The year of 2024 has been surprisingly kind to Malayalam and Hindi cinema, and even Telugu cinema showed promise. But while the Kannada counterparts are struggling to make a mark, the situation for Tamil cinema is way worse. Except for ‘ Captain Miller Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ and ‘ Ayalaan Click to look into! >> Read More... ’, not even one movie managed to cross 30 crores, forget being a simple hit.
If that was enough, many Malayalam movies are superseding the collections of Tamil movies just with their dubbed versions. Famous actor Samuthirakani had put the blame of this downfall on the exhibitors for ignoring small but honest movies for big ticket releases. Probably, he should have included these misplaced priorities as well.
