When Samuthirakani entered the film industry, he wanted to be a great actor. He was discouraged in the beginning. Many people told him that he did not have looks and physique of what an actor has. He consoled himself that insults are a part of life. In a movie ‘Paddikira Vayasu’ which was directed by Pandiarajan, he had only one line to say. With great struggle he managed to essay the role which had only a single dialogue. That was the actual starting to his career as an actor. He worked as an assistant director in year 1997 under the famous director K. Vijayan. Once he was noticed by K Balachander who was directing his 100th movie ‘Parthaale Paravasam’ and signed him as his assistant director. Also, in the famous TV serial ‘
Anni’ which was telecasted by Jaya TV, he worked as an assistant director to Balachander who was director of that series. ‘

Selvi’ were two of the biggest serials that Samuthirakani got himself associated with and they were a huge hit among the masses. They were telecasted in Sun TV.
Although his debut film as a director, Unnai Charanadaindhen received mediocre response he kept working hard till good things came his way. The film ‘Subramaniapuram’ made Samuthirakani emerge as a great actor and the movie ‘Nadodigal’ as a great director with a lot of potential. Now he has done a commendable job as an actor in Visaranai and has lot of films which are under production stage.
