Archana Kavi

Archana Kavi’s real name is Archana Jose Kaviyil. She was born on January 4, 1990 in New Delhi, India. She is an Indian TV host and movie actress. She debuted as an actress in the Malayalam romantic drama film, Neelathaamara in 2009 under the direction of Lal Jose. Archana is Jose Kaviyil and Rosamma’s daughter. She grew up in Delhi and study in St. Xavier’s School in Delhi. From Delhi, she transfered to Ramapuram, Kerala, to pursue Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Mar Augustinose College. According to her, she originally came from the middle-class Malayali clan where acting was not a profession. She wanted to be a journalist at first because her father works as a senior journalist and subsequently wished to become a radio jockey. She then started her internship in Malayalam’s Yes Indiavision channel and supports the production of various programs. After one year, she became the anchor of the Bloody Love show on Indiavision. Archana debuted in 2009 in the successful, Neelathaamara where she appeared as Kunjimalu, a maid who falls for her master. Her role here received many critical awards. Next is the Malayalam film, Mummy and Me, which was directed by Jeethu Joseph. Her role here was a rebellious teenager. Her next film, Best of Luck did not make an impact to become a box office hit. She debuted in Tamil through the film, Aravaan in 2012 where she played the role of Chimby. She debuted in Telugu through the romance film, Backbench Student in 2013. After that, she played the lead role in Abhiyum Njanum who tries to find her fiancée in Kerala. She was also starred in Honey Bee, Pattam Pole, Bangles and Nadodimannan. Her next Tamil film was Gnana Kirukkan. She was also doing Day-Night along with Maqbool Salmaan. Archana was also doing the Malayalam sports and musical film, Mazhavillinattam Vare where she played as a Muslim girl. She will also be featured in the upcoming Kukkiliyar and Hindi film, Saroja. Archana also anchored the reality show “Sundari Neeyum Sundaran Njaanum” on Asianet. She received many awards for her appearance in Neelathaamara such as Asianet Award for Best Female New Face of the Year, Jai Hind Award for Best Female New Face of the Year, Surya Award for Best Female New Face of the Year and Film Critics Award for Best Female New Face of the Year. She also got the Asianet Award for Best Star Pair and Kairali Awards for The Most Popular Actress in 2011 for the film Mummy and Me. She was also nominated in the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Malayalam for the same film. Another version of Bio... For someone born and brought up in the cosmopolitan surroundings of New Delhi, it did not initially appear that Archana Jose Kaviyl would end up being in the regional cinema of Kerala, although, of course, she belongs to a Malayali family. Her first exposure to Kerala was, however, when she had moved over for her MBA course at the age of 16. In fact, at one stage, she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps as a journalist. Perhaps to move ahead in something similar, she had tried to get into TV journalism from the sides, by getting involved in the production of some TV programmes. The next steps were logical – getting into anchoring – getting noticed in public and then catching the director’s eye. This is how she landed in her first film – “Neelathaamara” in 2009. She put in all her experience of anchoring and her innate desire to succeed and combined with her innocent looks and personality came out with a very appealing performance in her very first film as the innocent house maid, having an infatuation for her master’s son.  Not only from her director, but from cine-goers at large she drew high appreciation for her role. She had a completely different character to portray in her very next assignment – one that suited her age and generation more aptly – portraying the clash arising out of a generation gap between daughter and mother in the movie, aptly titled “Mummy & Me.”  Archana stated that the character of Jewel in that film, for which she received awards and nominations, was almost like playing her real self. In spite of this success, her next release “Best of Luck” had a lackluster response, making her try her hand in Tamil films, selecting “Aravaan” set in a 18th century backdrop, as her debut movie. Moving over to Telegu movies the next year, she portrayed the role of a college girl in the 2013 movie “Backbench Student.” Switching back to her native Malayalam, she took up widely different roles in her subsequent films, playing the role of an Anglo Indian girl in “Honey Bee”, while enacting the character of a typical Muslim girl in “Mazhavillinattam Vare”. Adding further contrast to her portrayals she did the character of a typical Mumbai female in “Abhiyum Njanum, while in “Nadodimannan” she lends credence to the role of a lady doctor. Broadbasing her presence in the South, she continued working in Tamil films, and also worked in between on a Hindi film “Saroja.”
