Jyothirmayi, the prominent Malayalam actor is known to be one of the few artists who has ruled the world of the TV first and then, with her popularity and talent went on to become one of the top notch actors of the Mollywood industry. After rising to fame as an actor, she’s worked in nearly 30 Malayalam films.

Starting off her career as a model, Jyothirmayi bagged a chance to anchor a local cable channel while she was still very young. She took it up, not expecting the superstardom that lay ahead of her. For some time, she ruled the world of TV anchoring some local programmes and acting in some popular TV serials like the “ Indraneelam”, a popular daily serial that was aired on Surya TV.

Jyothirmayi’s fate turned around when she was featured in the film “Pilots” in a supporting role and later in the much acclaimed “Bhavam”. She was also known for her item number in the Dileep-starrer, “ Meesa Madhavan”. Her career graph only went up since then and she starred in some very special roles in nearly thirty Malayalam films post that.

Despite being around for more than a decade and winning hearts with roles in films like Pattalam (the Mammootty starrer) and Idhaya Thirudan (by director Saran), Jyothirmayi still continues to rule the world of the Malayalam cinema and has two films starring her, releasing this year.




Jalaja Malayalam Actress


The veteran Malayalam actor Jalaja is a blend of pure timeless beauty and impeccable talent that to this day, she’s got strong admirers nearly 15 years after she quit acting. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, among the few Malayalam actors who have been recognised as both commercial actors and artists who’ve worked with some top notch directors, Jalaja was one.   Born and brought up in Malaysia, Jalaja moved to Kerala, India when civilian war broke out in Malaysia. Soon after her education, in the year 1978, she debuted with her first film, Thampu (which was an Aravindan directorial which won the Kerala film award). With each film, she gained name and fame and went on to act in nearly 120 Malayali films after that.   Sayoojyam (a 1979 film by Prem Kumar), Vikkanundu Swapnagal (an Azad directorial), Munnettam(starring Mammootty), Elippathayam (yet another film that won a Kerala film award) and Yavanika (the 1982 Mammootty starrer) were some of the films that she acted in. She’s won two awards in 1981, the Kerala State film award for best actress and the Filmfare award for the best actress for her role in the film Venal (directed by Lenin Rajendran).   With the year 1989, Jalaja bid her goodbye to movies. Shortly after that, in the year 1993, she married Prakash Nair and has since settled in Bahrain. Jalaja still plays a prominent role in award functions in the Malayalam film industry and is venerated as one of the most precious actors Mollywood industry has ever had.
