Kelis Rogers is an American singer-songwriter and certified chef. She authored the famous cookbook “My Life On A Plate: Recipes From Around the World”, and a small business owner of gourmet sauce company “Bounty & Full”. She was born to Kenneth and Eveliss, in Manhattan, New York City. Her name is a combination of her parents’ name. Kelis is the third born among her four sisters. Her mother, who inspired Kelis to pursue her singing career, is a fashion designer of Chinese and Puerto Rican descent. Rogers used to play Violin, Piano, and Saxophone, as a child. She has done her schooling from the Manhattan Country School and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Arts, and later from “Performing Arts”, an elite school within the New York City Public School System. Here she formed the R&B trio BLU (Black Ladies United). Her tenure at LaGuardia made Kelis serious about pursuing a career in music. Before graduating high school, she worked as a bartender as well as a sales associate in a clothing store. The album underperformed in her own country but saw mild success in certain international markets. It charted at number 43 in the United Kingdom. Her album was later certified gold. She and her albums gained acclaim because of the assistance from Pharrell Williams, and The Neptunes.
