Elizabeth Avellan

Elizabeth Avellan Veloz was born on 8 November, 1960. She was born in Venezuela and is a Producer in American movies. Gonzalo Veloz Mancera was her grandfather and he is credited for creating the very first TV station that was owned privately in Caracas (Venezuela). When she was a teenager, her family shifted to the United States and started residing in Houston. Here she went to school at Rice University.

In her university days Avellan first started working in her college’s productions as a prop master and stage manager. This was her stepping stone to her career. In 1986 she shifted to Austin. There she began working for the Executive Vice-President and Provost of the University of Texas. She carried on with her further studies side by side, majoring in film production, art and architecture. She used to produce and used to take care of the minute details. She also performed the job of animation for her husband’s film ‘Bedhead’. It was a 16mm film and was broadcast on PBS channel. It got many awards and acclamations. They married a year and a half later in 1990 after dating for a while. They were the founders of the production house called Los Hooligans Production.

In 1991 they started working on the movie ‘El Mariachi’. She took a few classes on producing at UCLA to hone her skills. She has also worked on other films as a co-producer such as ‘Spy Kids’ (2001), ‘The Faculty’ (1998), ‘Desperado’ (1995), and ‘From Dusk Till Dawn (1996). Avellan and Rodriguez have five children. Four sons - Rogue Joaquin, Rebel Antonio, Racer Maximiliano and Rocket Valentino, and also a daughter, Rhiannon Elizabeth. It was difficult for her to balance her career and motherhood.

She is the current co-owner and Vice President of Troublemaker Studios, that she and her husband co-founded in 2000. In April of 2006, Rodriguez and Avellan proclaimed that they would be separating and thus they got divorced after a marriage of sixteen long years. Her last film was ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ which was released in 2014 and she worked as a Producer/Executive Producer in it.

Recently she was in the news for driving while intoxicated according to an arrest affidavit. She was arrested and held in the Travis County Jail for the same on 4 March, 2016. She was being held on a $5000 bond.
