Her childhood was a bit strange, surrounded by her sorrows. At a prime age of 3, her mother got separated from her father, and she spent her childhood with her mother and brother, separated from her father. She missed her father in her childhood.

As a child, she was never impressed to take part in any extra-curricular activities like debate or act in a play, but she was a good student overall. Wiig got a job at a plastic surgery clinic but was not satisfied at all with the job. It was then she decided to move to Los Angeles and try her luck in acting. Next day, she packed and left for Los Angeles.

After she had landed in Los Angeles, she worked as a floral seller or even sold dogs at the mall. She did not take up any traditional acting classes from any institute or university. She took part in an audition and was selected on the spot. That is how Kristen Wiig got a break in glamour world. SNL producer Lorne Michaels came to notice her talent and asked her to audition finally for the program. She was then given a contract for show’s 31st season and had to shift to New York from Los Angeles. 

This made Kristen Wiig to make her career on SNL on November 12, 2005. Within a just span of two years, she became a busy star in the show. She was regarded as the greatest comedian on the show, and she went to appear in more episodes than even her other co-stars. For her appearance in SNL in 2009, she was named one of the 25 funniest actresses in Hollywood. She became an icon in Hollywood. 

Her last association with SNL was in 2012, after which she never appeared in SNL show. Simultaneously, she made her debut in a film Knocked Up (2007) where she played a character of a television executive. 

In the year 2011, she appeared in high-profile comedy films, such as ‘Despicable Me ‘(2011) and ‘Bridesmaids’ (2011). For the movie Bridesmaids, her work was appreciated. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress-Motion Picture. The film was even nominated for Academy Awards too.
