Spike Lee also known as Shelton Jackson is an American producer, writer, actor, and director. He owns a production house named 40 Acres and a Mule Film works, which has produced more than 35 movies. He used to do filming from his college days, and the movie Last Hustle in Brooklyn was completed at the age of 20 when he was studying. At the time of his graduation he had made the movie named Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads, which a part of his thesis. The movie was appreciated and earned him a Student Academy Award. His first movie was She's Gotta Have It, in the year 1986. It was the most appreciated movie of his career. The film was shot in two weeks with a budget of $175,000. In theaters, the movie grossed around $7 million making it one the hit and profitable movies of that year. His movies were mostly based on the concepts of poverty, violence, and politics. He made his second film in 1989 Do the Right Thing; the movie had all the above elements. This new concept was an eye-opener for the audience and was nominated in Academy Award for the category of Best Original Screenplay.
His further films include Mo' Better Blues, Malcolm X, Summer of Samand She Hate Me, all based on political issues. In 1963, he made a documentary named 4 Little Girls, which was based on the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. The documentary made up to get a nomination for the 1998 Academy Award. He has even directed television commercials. The most famous one is with Michael Jordan in the campaign of Nike's Air Jordan. His other clients are Taco Bell and Ben & Jerry's, Converse. He has been a writer-director and producer for the video game NBA 2K16. His recent works include Miracle at St. Anna, which was the story of an African-American soldier who got trapped in the World War II. He worked in many documentaries of Michael Jackson and Kobe Bryant. He has even remade many hits like Oldboy. His 2015 movie Chi-Raq, was an adoption of Lysistrat. The movie was honored with Oscar for Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He got married to attorney Tonya Lewis. The couple has two sons. He is a big fan of New York Yankees, which are an American baseball team and the football team Arsenal. his documentary Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs The New York Knicks, focused on the strategies and the party work. In 2007, he was honored with San Francisco Film Society's Directing Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival in their 50th year. In 2013, he won The Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize, which is one of the prestigious and expensive awards with the amount of $300,000. In 2015, he was awarded the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his work in the industry.
