Dick Van Dyke took birth on Dec 13, 1925, in Missouri USA, and is an American actor, producer, writer, singer who has appeared numerous movies like ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ which was his debut movie, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ and so on. Bye Bye Birdie earned him his very first Tony Award while, he got nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy category. He also starred in the sitcom ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ from 1961 to 1966 portraying a comedy writer which won him 3 Emmy Awards For the Outstanding actor in a comedy series and the comedy series received 4 Emmy Awards itself in the comedy category.
He also appeared in the ‘The New Dick Van Dyke Show’ from 1971-1974, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. One of the songs of Mary Poppins performed by Dyke won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. He has been awarded the Screen Actors Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
He has also served has a radio announcer for the US air corps in World War 2 after he left his High School in the senior in 1944. He has been married twice, the first being Margerie Willet from 1948-84 with four children, and the other being the make-up artist Arlene Silver in 2012. He lived with his long-time partner Michelle Triola for 30 years until her death in 2009. His children and grandchildren have appeared in the sitcom ‘Diagnosis: Murder’. ’. Dick has had two major life threatening accidents. In 2010, he fell asleep on his surfboard and found himself surrounded by a swirl of circling fins. But he said, “They turned out to be porpoises, and they pushed me all the way to the shore.” In 2013, he was pulled out of a burning car by a group of nurses.
