Carroll O’Connor (known as John Carroll O'Connor) is a veteran TV actor who had stolen hearts of audiences and critics through his magnificent performances in American sitcoms and Television films. His turning point in his career came in 1971 when he appeared in an American Sitcom ‘All in the family’ which was aired on CBS television network, in this show, Carroll played the central character on which the whole episode revolved. He narrated the role of Archie Bunker, who was a World War-II middle-class living veteran in Queens, New York. In the year 1979, he again reprised the same character of Archie Bunker in TV sitcom 'Archie Bunker's Place' which was a spin-off and continuation of previous serial 'All in the family'. He also won several accolades for portraying the role of white police chief William Gillespie in an American drama TV series ‘In the Heat of the Night’ that was broadcast on NBC from 1988 until 1992 and again in 1995.

For appearing in sitcom ‘In the Heat of the Night’ and ’All in the family’ he won the Golden Globe Award for best actor and Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actor twice. The TV and film fraternity had even bestowed upon him the highest honor, the Sigma Phi Epsilon Citation in 1973. In 2000, he also became the star of ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’. The veteran actor had passed away on June 21, 2001, in California as he suffered a serious heart attack. He died when he was 76 years old.
