Soham Mehta is an English film director, editor, writer, producer, and actor based in the United States. He is also an award-winning filmmaker. Soham Mehta was born in India. His family moved to Texas when he was four years old. During his school days, he developed his interest in theatre and acted in plays. Later, he gravitated towards directing and writing. He took his undergraduate degree in theatre at the University of Texas in Austin. After that, he received his MFA in film from the same university. He was a 2014 Center for Asian American Media Fellow. In 2013, he was also invited to the Directors Guild of America Asian American Committee Mentorship Program.
Soham Mehta explored the intricate dynamics of family & forgiveness in his acclaimed short thesis film, “Fatakra," in 2011. The film was awarded the Student Academy Award USA, the Directors Guild of America Student Award, the Jury Award, the Sarasota Audience Award, and the New Director/ New Visions Award at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. When not directing his own material, Soham Mehta applies his storytelling skills as an editor. He also edited for a marketing consultancy, "MTV Scratch," that leveraged MTV's expertise in reaching young adults for third-party brands. General Motors, Sun Spot, and the History Channel are some of his clients. His work for General Motors focusing on assisting the company revived his passion for driving in young adults and was featured in the New York Times.
As an associate editor, Soham Mehta worked at the Sundance premiering “Ask Dr. Ruth” by acclaimed documentarian Ryan White in 2019. In 2012, he worked as co-editor for the drama "Now, Forager," which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. The same year, his work as co-editor for "Stones In The Sun” drama also made its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it received a special jury mention. Previously, he worked as an assistant editor for television series such as "Storm Chasers" & “The Seven” in 2010 and “Patti and Marina” in 2017.
