Shane Carruth

Shane Carruth is an American composer, director, actor and film writer. He was the actor, director and writer of the prize – winning sci-fi film, Primer (2004). His second film was “ Upstream Color Click to look into! >> Read More... ” which was a fantasy and drama released in 2013. Carruth himself composed the scores for both these films. Carruth was born in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in the year 1972. Before becoming a film-maker, he worked as a developer of flight simulation software. He did his graduation in mathematics from Stephen F. Austin State University, Texas. Carruth got engaged to Amy Steinmetz in January 2016. The Primer was Carruth’s first film which was written, directed and produced by him. He even played one of the two lead roles and composed the music.

This movie brought many achievements in Carruth’s life. The film was honored with the Grand Jury prize in Sundance Film Festival in 2004. ‘Primer’ also received the Alfred P. Sloan Award. Carruth had used his software developer skills to make this project successful. Carruth also achieved the award for the Best Writer/Director in Nantucket Film Festival (2004). The movie ‘Primer’ achieved the Best Feature award in London International Festival of Science Fiction (2005) and was nominated as the ‘Best Feature Film’ in Gotham Awards and as ‘International Fantasy Film’ in Fantasporto Awards. ‘Upstream Color’ premiered on January 21, 2013. ‘Upstream color’ also made Carruth win the ‘Best Directorial Revelation’ award in Sitges Film Festival,2013. Most of the critics appreciated the movie and could not stop talking about it.

The film was released via VHX, on 5th April 2013. Shane Carruth’s film journey started with Primer in 2004 in which he acted as Aaron and in Upstream Color (2013) as Jeff. He also did some short films like ‘Everything & Everything & Everything’ in 2014 in which he had the role of Morgan; in ‘We’ll find something’ as Steve and in ‘Memory box’ as The Man in 2015. He worked in some TV series too like ‘The girlfriend experience’ with a justifying the role of Sam in 2016 for which he was also the composer and did a Cameo ‘ Swiss Army Man Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ with the role of Coroner.

There were rumors that Carruth was consulted for a science fiction film ‘ Looper Click to look into! >> Read More... ’ by Rian Johnson based on time travel, but later Johnson confirmed that Carruth was not involved beyond the work of giving a few notes on the script. ‘The Modern Ocean’ is the film Carruth is currently working on, it is based on international shipping and the people involved.
