Born on 6th February, 1949, in Dublin, Ireland, Jim Sheridan is a famous Irish director and writer. His parents are Anne and Pete Sheridan. He earned the title of master story-teller because of his work. He is the brother of Peter Sheridan and Late Frankie Sheridan. Also known by the nickname Shea, Jim graduated from University College, Dublin.
In 1989, he wrote five plays which are as follows: Ha’penny Place, Last Post, My Left Foot, The Field, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, and In the Name of the Father which earned him worldwide fame and respect. He moved to America in 1982 at the invitation of one of his friends to run the Irish Arts Centre. He first adjusted on a low budget. His side work as an actor and writer in the films Some Mother’s Son, The Boxer earned him three golden globes including best actor and best director. His wife is Fran, and he has three children: Naomi, Kirsten, and Tess, who joined hands and helped him on the screenplay for In America. His Dublin-based film production company is Hell’s Kitchen.
The movie In America, released in 2002, was based on his own family’s struggles in the early 1980’s in the New York City. He was only 40 years old when his 1st film was released. Jim received many awards, some of which are: Best Director and Best Picture for In the Name of the Father, Best Director for My Left Foot. He got nominated for awards at the Berlin Film Festival. He also won the Best Original Screenplay for In America. One of his famous quotes is: “The rules of drama are not the rules of life.”
