Jan De Bont born on 22nd October 1943, in Eindhoven, Netherlands is a renowned Dutch director of photographer, actor and producer. He was born in a Roman Catholic family and was one among 17 siblings. He graduated from the Amsterdam Film Academy. He always had a creative mind and good thinking for photography. He got into the film industry as a famous cinematographer. His first work was with Adriaan Ditvoorst, a well-known Dutch director. He rose to fame in his country, Netherlands as the camera operator for the film Turkish Delight.

Since 1980, he started frequently working in Hollywood. In the film Roar, released in 1981, he experienced an accident on the sets. A lion had lifted his scalp, and this required 22 stitches on his head. Jan made his debut as a director with Speed, which was a big hit released in 1994. He moved forward with his next hit film, Twister, released in 1996 and then directed Speed 2: Cruise Control in 1997. But it, unfortunately, turned out to be a big failure.
In 1999, he directed the remake of The Haunting. It was a big success but was heavily criticised by critics. It received the nomination for Razzie Award five times. It also became acclaimed as one of the worst remakes in the history of the cinema world. He married Dutch actress, Monique van de Vont in 1973. She starred in the film Turkish Delight, where Jon worked as a photographer. He then wedded Trish Reeves with whom he has two children. He began his work on the project American Godzilla for pre-production in 1994, but soon quit the film when Sony Pictures did not give approval for the budget.
The project got temporarily shelved. He also directed Lara Croft Tomb Raider sequel The Cradle of Life in the year 2003. Jon is a member of the American Cinematographers Society since 1999.
