Adam Godley is an English actor. Godley was born in 1964 to Jewish parents in Amersham, Buckinghamshire. His father was a lawyer and his mother a judge. He grew up near Watford, Hertfordshire, and attended Rickmansworth School. He began acting at the age of 9 in a BBC radio production of Hemingway's My Old Man. He received his first theatrical role at the age of 11 as Prince Giovanni in The White Devil in The Old Vic.

Godley gained national notoriety after starring in the 1984 BBC television adaptation of J. Meade Falkner's Moon fleet. He played Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in the award-winning Broadway revival of Anything Goes and Raymond Babitt in the West End production of Rain Man opposite Josh Hartnett.
He directed a new Dennis Kelly adaptation of Georg Kaiser's 1912 German Expressionist masterpiece, From Morning to Midnight, at the National Theater. Most recently, he was one of the three Lehman brothers in the National Theater's Lehman trilogy. He is Tony Award-nominated and has been nominated four times for the Olivier Award.
