Plot: Lainey (Alison Brie) causes a scene in a dorm. Present there Jake (Jason Sudeikis) taking pity for her, claims her as his guest. Jake comes to know that Lainey was to lose her virginity to Matt (Adam Scott), but later Lainey understands that Jake is a virgin too, so the duo sleeps together. This happens way back in 2002 during their college days. In the present, Lainey confesses to her boyfriend Sam that she's cheating on him with someone, and they break up. Broken hearted Lainey again encounters Jake at a meeting and discovers his incompetence with serious commitments.
Lainey's relation with Matt disrupts when she finds out he's already engaged. Disheartened again, Lainey contacts Jake and the two go out on a date. They both share their problems and Jake admits his desire to sleep with her. Lainey disagrees first, but they make a pact stating only friendship and their sexual tension a "mousetrap." The two begin hanging out as best friends but are mistaken as lovers. Jake gets acquainted with the fact that Lainey has to move to Michigan for re-schooling. He brings her to a friend's birthday party where she meets Chris Smith. Jake decides to move on and asks out his boss Paula. During a date with Chris, Lainey bumps into Matt and his pregnant wife.
Jake having sex with Paula calls out her name as Lainey, the same day. Jake and Lainey spend the night together and land on a realization that they love each other but decide to do nothing about it. Lainey moves away to Michigan, and Jake continues dating Paula until one morning during a brunch with Paula, Jake encounters Matt and punches him in the face. Jake is sued, and Paula breaks up with him. Jake calls Lainey from the police station and affirms his love for her, she also admits. But later Matt refuses to settle things. So Lainey gets him out of their way by making peace. The duo, Jake, and Lainey rush off to get happily married immediately.
Verdict: Variety in jokes and comic scenes is observed, performance is good, but the storyline remains habitual. We have seen such same stories before in movies like Friends with Benefits (2011) and When Harry met Sally (1989). "Old Story But Great Cast." On-Screen Chemistry is good.Â
