Plot
A nuclear family led by a marketing genius and a stay at home mom who wants to finish her research but can’t because of the kids, and they are struggling to keep their house afloat with three kids. AIA (a virtual home assistant) gets installed in their home. At first, she helps in making the tasks more manageable, entertaining the kids, helping mom with paperwork related to her research and health insurance. But one day AIA starts controlling the family and enforcing the notion how a family should be? Putting the lives of the family in danger.
Star performance
The star cast has done a formidable job. John Cho, Katherine Waterston as the couple makes you empathize with them. The kids have also done a great job and AIA (voiced by Havana Rose Liu) comes as sweet yet scary.
Analysis
The film builds up anticipation really well. The entry of AIA in the family’s life, how easier their lives are becoming and voila one day it goes downhill. The director highlights the pros and cons of artificial intelligence in today's world. The film has some creepy moments, but it doesn't hit you in the head as the film has interesting yet fascinating ideas and also has parallels with the real world. The moment the family starts to think something is weird the film drops the narrative and seems too much and the climax seems rushed, incomplete, and flat, not making you feel anything. The film is very similar to M3gan, The Social Dilemma but these films are more thought provoking and detailed in their narrative. This film feels like ticking the elements it wants to discuss and just end it there. The film has an interesting subject but doesn't explore anything beyond what we’ve seen.

Verdict
Afraid is a vanilla film with an exciting subject matter. And it can be watched once.
