Plot
A cantor in a confusion of faith finds his life taking a 360-degree turn when his grade school music teacher reappears in his life as his new adult bat mitzvah student.
Star performance
Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane share organic chemistry and make an incredible duo. Jason as a depressed, grieving individual on point. Carol Kane with her zany comedic timing and screeching voice elevates and somewhere takes the film on her shoulders. The rest of the cast is also good in their respective roles.
Analysis
Everybody knows the Manic Pixie Dream Girl Trope. There are countless movies with this trope Garden State, 500 Days Of Summer, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Her. The original film with this trope was the 1971 black comedy Harold And Maude, where a young boy falls in love with an older woman who tells him to live his life to the fullest. Between the temples is an homage to that film. Here, Kessler helps Ben regain his voice. Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane share great chemistry and have played their parts perfectly and so has the rest of the actors. The most exciting thing about this film is its cinematography, which is edgy and handheld camera movements. The film has many Jewish stereotypes and caricatures which is fine as the director himself is Jewish. It's a perfect homage to the 1971 cult classic.

Verdict
Between The Temples is a sweet, awkward comedy that works because of the in-depth writing and solid acting performances. Do watch it.
