Ten Actors Who Underwent Physical Transformations For Their Movie Roles Tamil Article

Every now & then, several people have been known to push themselves, both mentally & physically so that they can properly encapsulate the parts that they’re meant to portray. These perfectionists, using their utter will & grit surpass all expectations, delivering us with a pure spectacle in the end. Here are 10 actors from South Indian Cinema who underwent physical transformations for the portrayal of their role.

1. Prabhas

‘Baahubali 2’’ This Telugu star, who has become synonymous with the movie, is one of the primary reasons for Baahubali’s massive success. While shooting the action sequences was grueling, maintaining a diet & building his physique for the movie were far more strenuous, a task for which he gave five years of his life. Playing the role of two characters, Amarendra & Mahendra Baahubali, he had to bulk up for his role of the father, while acting as Shivudu, he had to grow lean. It was an incredibly compelling task which Prabhas was able to complete beyond anyone’s expectations.

2. Chiyaan Vikram

‘I’ When South India’s favorite superstar was roped in S Shankar’s romantic thriller, & was supposed to exhibit different looks: a bodybuilder, a beast, a model & a hunchback, fans were scared that this might prove too daunting task for an actor of even his cadre to fulfill. However, the maestro spent two & a half years of his career for this, losing twenty-five kilos in the process, & delivering a successful film, which went on to be the fourth highest grossing film at the time.

3. Kamal Haasan

‘Hindustaani’ This 1996 blockbuster saw veteran Haasan portray an old man, acting as a freedom-fighter who defied all odds & continued his practice of trying to fight against bureaucracy. It wasn’t the first time the actor has undergone such a massive transformation, since he has always been keen on experimenting with roles such as ‘Chachi 420’, ‘Dashaavtaaram’, etc.

4. Suriya Sivakumar

‘24’ Donning multiple looks in the trailer of the film ‘24’, Suriya is slated to act in this movie riding on high expectations based on the concept of time travel. Playing the role of a scientist as well as that of the negative character who tortures him, fans are excited in knowing what the outcome of his latest venture will be.

5. Arya

‘Naan Kadavul’ Roles like Arya’s Aghori, for which the actor had to grow a bushy beard, long hair & a mustache, come once in a lifetime. Bala’s directorial venture proved to be a boost to Arya’s career, since ‘Naan Kadavul’ saw the actor go to the extremes in his portrayal of the Aghori, travelling about streets, offering people alms, doing everything that hermits & sages were known to do.

6. Raghava Lawrence

‘Kanchana 2’ The song ‘Moda Moda’ saw an innovative concept put into light in the movie ‘Kanchana 2’, where Lawrence was made to act as a young girl, running & even dancing about like one. Fans of the actor were nothing short of enthralled, going on & lauding his performance.

7. Shaam

‘6 Mezhuguvarithigal’ Growing his hair, applying make-up & losing massive amounts of weight, Shaam shocked everyone by his transformation in this movie. Playing the role of a father who was trying to locate his missing son, he traveled all across different regions to find him. In the end, when he was unable to do so, Shaam reportedly had to undergo several sleepless nights to attain the bags under his eyes.

8. R. Sarathkumar

‘Kanchana’ When someone as good-looking & well-built such as Sharath Kumar goes on to act as transgender in a movie, the casting is bound to rise more than just a few eyebrows. However, in his subtle portrayal, right from his body movements to his gestures, the actor nailed the role in every possible way.

9. Rana Daggubati

‘Baahubali’ When the lead actor in a blockbuster franchise such as Baahubali underwent such a huge change, how could the character in the negative role lack in any of his efforts? With someone his age, Dugabatti surpassed all his naysayers’ expectations & sported the killer look that we see in Baahubali.

10. Akshay Kumar

‘2.0’ Playing the villain in the sequel to 2011 hit ‘Endhiran’, the Bollywood veteran was unrecognizable in his appearance for the negative role in upcoming movie ‘2.0’, alongside legend Rajnikanth. He acts as a scientist who reportedly turns into a crow, & this won’t be the first time Kumar has gone to extraordinary lengths to act in a movie.
