P. S. Nivas is a Director in Kollywood. Nivas is also a producer, cinematographer, and has worked in all languages. He directed films in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. P. S. Nivas was born in Kozhikode, Kerala. He studied at St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri. Then he went on to do a Diploma in Motion Picture Photography. He obtained his diploma from the Institute of Film Technology, Adyar, Chennai. Nivas commenced his career as an operative cameraman.

He also worked in films like Mappusakshi [1972], Chembarathi [1972], Swapnam [1973]. Nivas made his debut in Kollywood in 16 Vayathinile, a super hit movie by Bharathiraja. He has directed four films altogether. Kallukkul Eeram released in 1980. Enakkaga Kaathiru is a beautiful movie released in 1981. Nizhal Thedum Nenjangal [1982] and Sevvanthi [1994] were the last two films he directed. Apart from these movies, he did cinematography in plenty of movies in four major languages.

Nivas did not spare the Telugu movie industry also. Vayasu Pillichindhi, Nimajjanam, Punadi Rallu, Saagara Sangamam, Sankeerthana, Hanthakudi Veta, Nani are the Telugu films, he cinematographed. Nivas did the cinematography for 3 Hindi movies- Solva Sawan, Red Rose, Bhayaanak Mahal. Nivas received National Film Award for Best Cinematography for Mohiniyattam in Malayalam, which reached the theatres in the year 1976. P. S. Nivas received the Nandi Award for Best Cinematographer for the Telugu film, Nimajjanam. Besides these works, he also photographed for many South Indian movies, using skills he obtained from his Diploma. P.S. Nivas is one of the famous directors of the 80s and well known for his works even now. He is absolutely a gem for South Indian Film Industry.
