1. Vaaranam Aayiram(2008)

The movie which catapulted Suriya to overnight admiration, Vaaranam Aayiram is a masterpiece in Tamil Cinema. The movie had Suriya playing double roles- as a father and his son. It followed the transition of the son from teenage to youth to manhood and explored the deep bond he formed with his father.

2. Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu (2006)

The second in Gautham Menon & trilogy of cop movies, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu had Kamal Haasan in the lead. It followed an investigative officer & journey to track down an assailant with whom he has the past. Jyothika won praise for her bold role in the film.

3. Kaakka Kaakka (2003)

Kaakka Kaakka marked the beginning of Menon’s famed cop trilogy-wherein he follows a single metamorphosis line of the plot through different policemen. Kaakka Kaakka had Suriya and Jyothika in the lead and stood out for its brilliant action sequences. It was remade into Hindi as Force, starring John Abraham.

4. Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (2010)

Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya can test your patience, but it is one of the cutest love stories ever in Tamil cinema. Starring Silambarisan and Trisha in the lead, the movie narrated the relationship between a Malayali nurse and a Tamil youth. The film acquired a lot of hype before the release, and upon hitting the theaters; it turned out to be a blockbuster.

5. Yennai Arinthaal (2015)

This was the third and final movie in Menon & cop trilogy, and the most successful. Yennai Arinthaal had Ajith in the lead along with Trisha. It followed the story of a former undercover cop living with his only daughter.Things take a turn when his child gets hunted by a former gang member whom he betrayed.

6. Minnale (2001)

Minnale was a romantic comedy and had Madhavan, Abbas, and Reemma Sen in the lead. The movie has been immersed in controversies and troubles from the beginning, which culminated in Madhavan and Abbas attacking each other in the open. But the film turned out to be a success and received positive reviews and critical acclaim.

7. Pachaikili Muthucharam (2007)

Starring Sarathkumar, Andrea Jeremeah, and Jyothika in the lead, Pachaikili Muthucharam was a sleeper hit in theaters upon its release. The movie followed the troubled family life of the protagonist and narrated how he ends up in an extra-marital affair. Later the plot thickens, and the film develops into a Romantic thriller.

8. Nee Thaane En Ponvasantham (2012)

This Jeeva-Samantha starrer was a huge hit upon release and later fetched multiple Filmfare awards. A love story in three periods, Nee Thaane En Ponvasantham is witty, sad, and romantic at the same time. The movie succeeded in finding a connection with the youth.

9. Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (2016)

This movie has not been at par with Menon’s best, in terms of emotional content and storyline, but it delivers in the action sequences. Starring Silambarasan and Manjima Mohan in the lead, the film follows a cliched first half with usual Tollywood gimmicks and romance. The second half though gets filled with thrilling action sequences.

10. Nadunisi Naaygal (2011)

Nadunisi Nayagal is one of the most daring Psychological thrillers to be shot in Tamil. Starring Vera Bahu and Swapna Abraham in the lead, the movie is an intense study of the effects of child abuse. Though it received lukewarm reviews, the film is inarguably an experimental one.
