Piyush Manush is well known for his environmental activities. Piyush Manush is from Salem, Tamil Nadu, India. His description is given as “Farmer/Activist/Green Entrepreneur. “He has conservation and protection of nature and its resources are his prime concerns. Since his childhood, Manush always spent his time planting saplings and promoting afforestation. He globalized regarding his ideas and he brought together many urban citizens who are interested in social welfare activities to form Salem Citizen’s Forum in the year 2010. As a part of it, they have adopted a 58-acre plot known as Mookaneri Lake situated at foot of Shevaroy Hills. They protected this plot from destruction due to pollution. They also worked on projects like Ammapettai Lake, Ismailkhan Lake, Kundukkal Lake, Pallappatti well and Arisipalayam Pond with an aim to preserve and conserve water bodies.

Apart from water bodies, they also focused on other projects like standing against mining and land mafia. One such event was quarrel of Kanjamalai hills. Piyush Manush was famous for his moment named “Coop Forest” in 2009. This is a moment created for the preservation of 1.5 acres of forest lands situated at the Dharmapuri hilly areas. Manush lives with his spouse Monika Sethia and their two kids. Manush was charged with a non-bailable warrant for his rebellion regarding the construction of Muluvadi Gate by Southern Railways in Salem. Two other activists are also included in this complaint. Despite various attempts and uproars of his followers, he was left in solitary confinement. According to sources of him, it was stated that he was tortured before his conditional bail after 2 weeks. Piyush Manush represented the people of Chennai for receiving the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year in 2015.

He was rearrested on 18 June 2018 for his protest regarding the highway between Salem and Chennai spreading over 270 kilometers. It was a 10000-crore proposed under Bharatmala Pariyogana scheme. Many activists and environments also raised their voice against his arrest. Piyush is active on social media platform Twitter with the @piyush manush. Piyush comes forward with a strong belief that ideas and opinions should be given more preference than political surveys and projects. Manush’s analysis says that a 270-kilometer corridor wouldn’t cost 10,000-11,000 crores. It would cost only 4,000 crores and the remaining would be grabbed by the politicians.
