Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav, the son of the former CM, Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder as well as a member of Samajwadi Party, and Malti Devi, is the youngest Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP) till date. Born on 1st of July in the year of 1973, he is the 20th Chief Minister of UP. He hails from the Saifai village of Etawah District, UP. He has a sibling, Prateek Yadav. Akhilesh completed his education from Dholpur Military School, Rajasthan. After that, from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore, he took his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Environment Engineering. He has also attended the University of Sydney, from where he pursued his degree in Environmental Engineering.

Before stepping foot into politics, Akhilesh was an Agriculturist, Engineer, and a Social Worker. He was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha in 2000 from Kannauj after which he was elected for the next two consecutive terms. At the age of 38, in 2012 March, he became the youngest person holding the CM post in the UP state. He has been in office since 15th of March 2012. Akhilesh got appointed as the leader of Samajwadi Party on 10th of March 2012.

Being a CM, Akhilesh has attained recognition in many of his deeds. He is known to be involved in rural life development and is also known to work for the social welfare of farmers as well as the poor and downtrodden in our country. The “Clean UP, Green UP” initiative by Akhilesh, in which 10 lakh saplings were planted within 8 hours on 7th of November 2015, has even earned its place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Akhilesh is known to have contributed a lot to his party’s rise in the Vidhan Sabha Elections, from a total of 97 seats in 2007 to 224. His name has been chosen as one of the 100 most influential Indians in 2016 by The Indian Express. His latest projects include the “Dial-100” program and the mid-day meal program for labourers and pension scheme workers aged 60.

Akhilesh Yadav got married to Dimple Yadav on 24th of November 1999, the 6th member of the Yadav family to be in politics. They have three kids, Aditi and the twins Arjun and Tina. Akhilesh is known to show interest in football and cricket. It has been told that his favorite hobbies include reading books, listening to music and watching films.
